I think we shouldn’t

I think we shouldn’t debate such motions as smoking should be banned in public places..cuz’ it is so old-fashioned.Personally,I think global warming is a good issue,we are talking about it on all levels.I think global warming is a result of development of all fields, not only economy.Cuz all growth is a chain, like food chain. If we are so concerned about the harmful effects it brings us,we will surely feel more worried if we stop our developments to prevent global warming. Then what?

It’s a really hot issue

It’s a really hot issue and it was debated in the grand final of 2007 worlds debating championship in Vancouver. THB that economic development is the solution to climate change. Your suggestion is highly appreciated and I’m looking forward more such good ideas…

Should the topics focus on Chinese society?

Actually I went to different debate forum and found that the debate topics in China are so different from what are currently hot in US or others. This is really a question. Should we focus on the currently hot issues on China now so that candidates have more to talk about or should we shift our focus a little to talk more about not only Chinese society, but maybe history, science, international relationship, etc. Here are a few topics I am thinking of now, mostly based on Chinese campus and society. 1. Should the government allow free competition in industries such as telecom, railway transportation or should they be controlled solely by the state? 2. Should the curriculum in Chinese colleges be arranged in a way to allow all students to choose the teacher they prefer most in the same course? 3. Should the activities held by the Students’ Body in colleges be more profit-based to support themselves or should the school authorities provide more funds to forbid the profit seeking behaviour?

Another one

Another one closely related with No. 2 above: Should academics in college be paid according to their performance? Typically such professionals are employed by the state and paid according to their experience and seniority, rather than by results, and higher rewards are gained through taking on more management responsibilities rather than through improved performance in the same job. In Britain and the USA, performance-related pay for teachers and academic lecturers has become a big issue in the last decade. I believe in China sooner or later or perhaps is just coming.

Suggested Motion

This house wouldn’t support Starbarks opened in the Forbidden City.

more motions

Well, I have to say it’s really difficult to think of good motions. It cannot be too narrow or specialized as to make all the debaters wordless; it cannot be too broad as to make the motion itself meaningless; also it cannot touch some subtle and sensitive areas such as politics or religion. It’s really difficult.
